For now though, enjoy the new paintings added in the Paintings & Illustrations section and some DnD related sketches! From Left to Right, Landar my Pirate Paladin character, Jurf the Manliest Centaur to have ever Centaur'd, and Apple the Elvaan Rogue.
It's been a long time since I've updated my website. So long in fact that I just dumped quite a lot of new paintings into my Paintings & Illustrations section. So be sure to go over there and check those out. I'm hoping to be returning to and updating my website more often now that I'm getting back into the swing of things. Looks like I still got quite a bit of work left to do!

Went out to figure drawing again this week and the whole session was mostly really quick poses. Here are some of my 1 minute poses that I felt like came out fairly nice.
I've been somewhat jumping around projects recently due to getting art tests at various companies. So I've been getting a run of some unfinished work. I feel like I'd like to show some WIPs that are turning out well. Check these out!
This is a traditional still life done in acrylics. It's been a while since I've painted with a traditional medium so this is some great practice in general. I feel like it helps me think a bit more when I am picking colors for digital paintings as well (due to the limited palette compared to digital work).
This is a city-scape I started because I wanted a bit more practice getting very precise lines in my paintings which is needed to sell the look of buildings in perspective. It's been a tough journey but I'm slowly working out techniques to speed up my process on how to paint perspective based images that require very tight precision like this.
The basic concept of this image was taken from a CGSociety.org matte painting challenge. They had a basic rendered image set up from maya for people to paint over. You can check out the challenge by clicking the link under this paragraph . I didn't actually participate in the challenge, I just took the base image to work from as I liked how it looked and wanted the practice of working from a concept like that.
Last thing I wanted to show isn't really a WIP project, but just a trip to a life drawing session over at the UW. Here's a few sketches that I enjoyed how they turned out. These are a mixture of 2 minute and 5 minute poses.
This is actually what I ended up turning into the 11 Second Club last month and I got #34 out of about 175 people who entered. I am pretty proud of that result considering I don't think the render turned out that great. There's still some artifacting in the background and the characters are a tad too dark. I also would like to finish up the animation of the zombie rising from the ground at the start of the scene sometime but I think I'll be taking a break from this animation for now. All in all, I feel like I am improving with animation very quickly. I can point out a few points where I could improve with this animation, but I believe it turned out much better than my last animation, "We won!". I'll be posting this again sometime in the near future when I have figured out a better setup for lighting/rendering. Hey all, just figured I'd post this update since I finished up a fairly nice looking background image for my "Home" animation. Today I finished up painting the background for my "Home" animation. Just thought you guys would enjoy taking a look to see how that's turning out!
Decided giving a shot at doing animatics before i jump right into animating. Also for this animation I want to have a nice matte painting in the background to show off my painting abilities for my portfolio. I learned quite a bit of Adobe After Effects by working on this as well as learned a couple issues that were unforseen. Such as I'll need to paint a portion of the background that I didn't expect I'd have to paint (the bottom right corner). This was because I initially was going to have the camera pan up, stop, then pan right. However, I found that this much panning was too distracting for such a short amount of time. The single pan to the top right makes it look much nicer I think, but in turn means I'll need to paint the bottom right of the background. This animation is going to be for the 11 second club which is due by the end of the month. I feel like this project is fairly ambitious but I also feel like I've learned a lot over the past few months to where I'll be able to complete it on time! *fingers crossed* I just finished up this animation which I'm fairly happy with. There's some small things that I could keep nitpicking on but I'm trying to focus on speeding up my workflow along with creating quality work. At the moment I feel like i am going to move onto the next project for bigger and better things! I'll possibly even do next months 11 second club (which starts tomorrow in fact). Audio is from Dota 2
Rigs are from here: http://animationbuffet.blogspot.com/2008/03/norman.html Animation is all mine! Hey all, I just wanted to post an update to show what I've been working on lately. It's a quick and fun animation using a voice clip from the video game Dota 2. Check it out! Just a self portrait I started up this morning and finished today. Was feeling painting something that would have a darker background as opposed to something light and cheery.
I was having some troubles with colors on a warm painting I was working on and was getting frustrated. I decided to take a break and do some value and color studies on some warm colored master paintings in the meantime. Value studies took a half hour each and color studies took one hour each.
I'm going to attempt to apply what I've learned and do a warm based painting of my own now... *fingers crossed* |
