Just a small update with the bad guys of the Arc of the Solaris story. I like all of these designs to an extent... though B2 and B3 seem somewhat weaker and may need some more work.

I realize my updates are starting to slow down. I haven't been feeling that great as of recently. I'm thinking allergies are getting to me full swing and they're definitely impacting my ability to get stuff done. I think I'm going to be going to the store tomorrow to see if I can find some sort of meds that don't end up making me sleep all day heh. Anyways, now onto the stuff I do have. I finally finished a concept sheet for the human characters in for the Arc of Solaris story. There's some good and some not so good in there. The early ones in particular aren't that special, but I like some of the later ones I came up with. Anyways, the "Defenders" and the "Aggressors" will be coming next. I'll probably be moving forward with A3, A4, B1, and B2 and scrapping the rest for this project. I'm liking where those are headed for sure.
Hey all, just updating a bit with where I'm at for my concept art class. I'm definitely thinking I'm going to be using numbers 3 through 7 for my final designs. For the time being though, I'm going to be continuing with designing characters till I get a full page (8 characters per page) for each of the races (human, friendly aliens, and bad aliens). I mainly want to nail down what the female versions of each of the races would look like and more civilian look for each of them as well. Once I am finally finished with all of the designs I'll be fancying the page up into a more aesthetically pleasing design; but yeah, here's what I've got so far.~
After having a weekend of socializing, I finally got back to work on my character yesterday. He is pretty much fully textured and skinned, though there's some nitpicky skinning things I may have to mess with in the future once I find stuff that doesn't work in certain poses. Regardless, I am super excited to use him in some future animations. He is fully rigged to the point where I should be able to use him in just about any animation I would like to use him for. If something doesn't work I'm sure I can edit him pretty easily though. As much as I want to get started on animating this guy, I had my first Concept Art resources class last friday. Which means, I have some Concept art homework to work on. Which I am actually very excited to do. Here is what we'll be drawing up concepts for the entire semester:
"It takes place 200 years into the future. Earth is no longer inhabitable. Humans are making their way to Mars aboard their last outpost known as “The Arc,” an extremely massive vessel about the size of a very small asteroid or a city. Stolen alien technology powers the Arc. An alien armada intercepts the arc to recover their stolen technology. Another alien race – closely linked to humans genetically – is compelled to protect humanity and helps humankind defend The Arc from the alien aggressors. An intergalactic war begins." I'm super stoked to get some sketches in for this. So if you're interested in getting an eye on some awesome sci-fi doodles, be sure to keep an eye on my website! Figured I am due for yet another update, so here is that 3D model I previously mentioned that I am working on. His hands and feet are yet to be textured (That's what I'm working on next), as well as the badge on his jacket. The Rig is completely finished but there's still some skinning work left to be done. Once I get everything on this guy 100% done I'll post another update here and dump him into my 3D art section. I've designed this guy so that I could potentially use him for many animations. Since my primary goal is to end up doing animation within the industry, I figure I'll need a LOT more new animations to compete with everyone else out there. Therefor, I have come up with this guy; I call him Jump Man (short for jumpsuit man)!
I figured a character in a generic jumpsuit can be easily retrofitted into a lot of animation concepts. Astronaut, Mechanic, Janitor, Construction Worker, Painter, ect. I can change this character to fit any of those roles with some extremely easy minor tweaks to his texture sheet. What I'm currently planning to use him for is a very short dialogue test where he'll be playing the role of an astronaut. I will talk more about that in the next update though... Hey all! Another new update, this time is just a small portrait painting I did for a friend of mine. I created some new brushes for this and gave them a shot. So far I'm liking where they're headed, but I feel I need to optimize the way I texture paintings even a bit more. It'll definitely be more of an ongoing attempt on my part for sure. Anyways, here's the painting, hope you all like it! Next update will be some renders of a 3D character I am working on. I'll be working on quite a few short animations with this character in the near future, at least that's what I'm planning on. I'm definitely thinking of something from the 11 second club will be most ideal. He is already rigged up but needs some more texture and skinning work done. Once the textures are finished (which is what I'll be focusing on now), the renders will be uploaded onto the site here :)
Yesterday I took the bus on over to the University of Washington to do some life drawing. It's a bit of a walk from the bus stop, but thankfully the weather has been FANTASTIC recently. Jimmy Johns was giving out some free samples to anyone walking by as well, so I got a nice free snack right before the session. And of course, the whole reason for being there, I got some really nice sketches of our model done. Check these out! Aside from that, I've lately been continuing to update my LinkedIn profile (Though it's still not quite finished). As well as trying to finish up one of the many paintings I have that I never finished. Hopefully within the next two weeks I'll have all the bigger paintings I have that're 75-90% finished to 100% finished. I'll definitely be putting them up here as I go, so keep on checking the site!
For anyone curious, here is the link to my LinkedIn =) www.linkedin.com/pub/grant-lamb/9/102/979/ Due to some unfortunate circumstances (mass lay offs), I am now unemployed. This is somewhat good news though! This means I finally have the time to do a TON of art and update this site as I progress. Lets start off with my first post of a quick sketch I did some nights ago. I would like to finish this into a completely colored version at some point; possibly when I start up my digital painting class at DigiPen next week. :) Speaking of which, DigiPen has started a new program where Alumni can go and audit classes at the school. This is what I have signed up for so I will be going to DigiPen every friday night for an amazing Concept Art/Digital Painting class by an amazing teacher. I've had this teacher once in the past when he was brand new and I think I've only scrapped the surface of what knowledge he could spread. You can go check out his blog over here: http://visualatrium.blogspot.com/
As I've mentioned, I may not be working on this painting till maybe a week from now. I'm currently focusing on more 3D related art. I have a character that's -almost- complete for renders and being released for the public, so stay tuned :) |
